Website of sidecar owners in Shanghai - China

November 2010:

The Tianma race went very well, 15 riders showed up, click here to see the photos. Next race in February. Thank you all for showing up!

Back from Bali, met Indoscooter team. FYI sidecar with vespa goes for 34,000,000 rp. and the vespa alone goes for 22,000,000 rp. (so yes the sidecar alone goes for 12,000,000 rp. yeah!)

A thai sidecar thanks to Francois & Constance de Regloix

This photo just made me laugh, not really sidecar related, sorry:

The world's biggest "suppositoire" is italian....

Just found the perfect ride for Shanghai traffic!!! Who wants one? (fyi, it was a Danish military project started in 1932 and ended in 1935: an armored Harley sidecar... go figure why it didn't work out....)

I love the hat on this picture, anybody's got an idea of the make? Probably from the 30's if you look at the bike...

Just stumbled on this very cool gallery of old PLA bikes... jia you!

A very cool customization of a BMW r12 (the generations after the one which was copied to make the CJ750).

Meet my latest online encounter: the Duna sidecar, just as stylish as the steib sidecars!

Here's some inspiration for those of you who like riding AND sailing...

That's what happens if you leave your bike unattended five minutes in Shanghai...

October 2010:

What a custom, i really would like the sidecar version of this one !

and some mooooore ! Garcon ? One of each please !

I am always mesmerrized by the capacity of Cities / Countries to do what ever they can to attract tourists, to be famous or more often to spend $$$ uselessly. Expo, Youth games, Asian games... But this is probably one of the best !!! Somewhere in China, Ordos a major city in Inner Mongolia (never heard of this city before) hosted last week a round of the Superleague Formula !!! Seriously ? Next year Formula 1 in the street of Lhassa ?

September 2010:

We know what Comrade China is riding to save China from the noiselessliness of electric bicycle and the low-emissionliness of Roewe's. But what does Captain America is riding in his upcoming movie ? No big surprise...

If you are an old Shanghainese, you might remember seing some of those on Shanghai highways (seriously). Anyway if the loading capacity and torque of your precious sidecar is not enough to pull your brand new Santana Vista which already broke down, here is the solution ! The Retriever

For you geeks out there, check out the review of this quite efficient helmet cam

Check out the killer look of this BMW R60/2 from 1963. French guys of Blitz Motors did it (oh yeah!)

August 2010:

* If you are planning your next adventurous motorbike trip, or if you think your bike is the only person you want to share your tent with. Here is what you need, Biketent ,maybe just a bit wider to fit one sidecar !

* unbelievable! 1986, from Beijing to Tibet!

At that time, the CJ costs 7,500rmb, which almost 200 months’ salary of a normal Chinese. (people earning the same 36rmb per month! (thx Kewen for finding this!)

* Steven Laplume racing at Tianma

Steven, long time resident of Shanghai and motorbike racer, raced last week in Tianma race track. Shanghai Sideways was one of the many sponsors of the racer. Steven was also involved with Mr Wang in Suzhou who produces fairly decent sidecars!

* Time to unveil one of our best kept secret, where do we blog from ?

FROM OUR BLOGMOBILE (its sidecar version at least)!!!

* You thought you were cool driving in Shanghai your brand new sidecar, painted in pink with chromed exhausts ? Sorry but you are not ! Some much more funny people from a neighboring country are drving much cooler 3 wheelers and they even race them ! When do we plan the Asian games of 3 wheelers ? Rickshaw

As you can see, they ride with style too !

* If you want to keep your bike naked and still want to see coming this big bad green truck brakeless coming behing you, we have the solution : the first helmet with builtin rear view miror  ! Reevu

* Sidecar is art, check out the work of Shi Jindian from Beijing, he is not the only one but I really like his last piece which makes it look like an X-ray of a CJ750. Classy!

-August Sushi style!:

* Meet the JSC, Japan's Sidecar club, they are big and have all sorts of crazy bikes. Have fun figuring out the links on this Japanese-only website

sidecar japan

* Ride with style, Japanese are way ahead of the Chinese market but also ahead of most markets anywhere when it comes to wearing the right gear on a CJ 750. GENOIL and Max Fritz are the answers to most of your needs, just start saving up... seriously!

max fritz motorbike gear; serious style comes at a cost

*Just came back from Xi'an and stumbled upon a nest of CJ 750's, the kind of thing that makes your trip worth being taken :)

Any idea of what this thing bellow is? Whoever has the answer wins a sidecar, 2 plane tickets to any destination in the world, their weight in sidecar spare parts and a key ring with their photo on it.

Got the answer by Romain L. and Frederic R. at the same time, this is an air filter like on big trucks! Romin and Frederic, enjoy your trip around the world and good luck with sharing the key ring + sidecar parts!

*Here are a few photos of a big gathering of bikes in May. Record will be broken in September as we'll need to get 42 bikes together at once for Shanghai Sideways!

June 2010:

We have found a way to do stretching exercises AND ride at the same time:

May has seen the biggest sidecar gathering of Shanghai so far with 29 bikes getting together at once, we're still far off the 300 + sidecar gathering in Beijing a few years ago which made it to the Guiness book of records...

We have made new friends, The Sidecar Club France which gather all owners of 3 wheel motorbikes. Let us know if you ever go to France, we'll be happy to put you in touch.

-We're looking for someone to take care of the operations in the club for a few months so iuf you have a nephew or a small cousin who's looking for an internship and who loves bikes, just put us in touch!

-BMW is organizing its yearly motorbike meeting at the Yellow Mountains on 14-16 June. A groups of Jialing riders are heading out there. Chances are the black bats club will also ride over.

-DRIVERS WANTED: Shanghai Sideways is looking for sidecar owners or riders (we have bikes at disposal) who have from a few hours to a whole lot of free time to ride with us on paid for tours in Shanghai. Just contact thomas@shanghaisideways.com if you're interested.

-Police is tightening controls on sidecars these days, be sure that all your papers are up to date and that you have a 3rd party insurance on your bike, it is mandatory. We have negotiated a 3rd party insurance with a coverage of 500,000 rmb (old ones are with a cover of 120,000 rmb), we'll be happy to help you get one, just let us know.

-Photo of the Month: Santa claus can fly with and open fly...

May 2010: Ride and shine! The weather is perfect to ride around Shanghai! A special hi to Yangze Pete who has made it to The Mont Everest with his crew on Changjiang 750, very impressive achievment! Safe ride Peter!

April 2010: This is Shanghai's worst April in the past 130 years according to China weather forecast, not a good time for riders...

However, a rider must ride.

Organizing this Sunday 18th of April a morning ride to the Shanghai Auto Museum (https://www.shautomuseum.gov.cn/en/home.asp).

We'll ride out at 11am. Should take between 1h to 1:30h to get there. Check out the gallery on their website, they have a Harley davidson sidecar!

Departure will be from Paul On Dongping rd (https://www.smartshanghai.com/venue/3218/Paul_%28Dongping_Lu%29_shanghai)

Let us know if you'll join in! info@shanghaisideways.com
